Graham Coxon @ Proud, Camden 01/05/11

I may have mentioned it once or twice, but I am a fan of Graham, and by the time we hit Proud for this special Levi’s ‘Craft of Music’ on Sunday night it is fair to say I was beside myself. Huw Stephens, the compare for the night introduced him as “the greatest guitar of his generation” which he looked to be cringing at as he came on stage with his new band who were to treat us with a 90 minute set that included extensive insight into his newest album, with a few songs from albums past thrown in for good measure plus a brief appearance on stage by Shingai Shoniwa (lead singer of The Noisettes). My personal favourites of the new stock were ‘The Truth’ and ‘City Hall’, although really, the generous set was all killer- no filler, and full of the characteristics that we all know and love: that shy smile he tries to fight off, the cockney pleasantries, and those awesome mid -song psyche outs. I left feeling positively buzzing and in utter adoration for the chap- bloody marvelous.
